SOCIAL SECURITY MAKING IT HARDER TO GET DISABILITY

Social Security has made it more difficult to get disability since March of 2017. It has announced that it will no longer give special weight to the opinion of your main treating doctor. In the past, the opinion of your doctor who was treating your most important condition was given more special weight than other treating sources. Obviously, your main treating physician should be the best source to  give an opinion about your inability to continue working.  It defies logic that others not involved in your care with no knowledge of your most import condition would be afforded the same consideration of their opinion over that of your main treating doctor.

On the other hand, the good news is that Social Security will now consider evidence from physicians assistants, advanced practice registered nurses, audiologists and optometrists as acceptable medical sources.  However, SSA does not consider chiropractors or social  workers as acceptable medical sources when physical problems exist.
