Is there a limit on income for social security benefits?

First, one must not be able to work in order to collect Social Security(SSDI) benefits. Social Security uses the term SGA which means substantial gainful activity (work). They have determined that you cannot earn more than about 1100 dollars a year to be eligible.

The average one can earn if granted Social Security benefits is about about 1200 dollars per month.

However, one can earn more than that while still collecting SSDI benefits if unearned income comes from interest on investments or a spouse’s income.

Another situation where an individual may earn more  disability income is if they also receive benefits from the VA for serving in the military
