Can you collect both Social Security disability and retirement benefits?

The answer is no.  You cannot get both benefits. If you are declared disabled by Social Security you are not eligible for also getting retirement benefits.  However, if you are receiving benefits from the Veterans Administration for a disabling condition resulting from military service you are eligible for also receiving Social Security benefits.

The VA has a different way from determining disability than Social Security. You can be considered partially disabled with the VA  while under Social Security rules you are either considered disabled or not disabled.
